Crystal Mountain Treks

History

Crystal Mountain Treks was started by Dinesh Gurung in 1990. Prior to this solo venture, Dinesh had been involved in the trekking business since September 1971. He began his career in the trekking industry as an Office Manager in Mountain Travel Nepal (first trekking company in Nepal) with the late Colonel Jimmy Roberts (1916-1997), and the late Mike Cheney, both, like Dinesh, pioneers of trekking in Nepal and retired soldiers of the British Army's Gurkha Regiment.

Dinesh established Crystal Mountain Treks as a solo venture after joint ventures in Himalayan Rover Treks Pvt. Ltd. (early 80’s) and Rover Treks and Expeditions Pvt. Ltd. (late 80’s). Dinesh served as an executive member of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA), Advisor and Convener of the International Mountain Museum (IMM) in Pokhara-Nepal, and Advisor to Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN). Many guides who have directly worked under Dinesh have gone on to establish their own companies in Nepal and India.
